Lake McKenzie is a perched lake, meaning it sits above the water table. It’s entirely rainwater-fed, with a base of compacted sand and organic matter that prevents the water from seeping away. The water is so pure and acidic that it’s unsuitable for most aquatic life, giving it a pristine and otherworldly clarity. Visitors claim that during strong winds, the fine silica sand around Lake McKenzie creates a faint, musical hum, like a natural serenade!
