Memories of Paua
Paua is the Maori name (pronounced "pah-wa") given to a species of large edible sea snails. The Americans and Australians call it abalone. The colour of their shells has always fascinated me. The iridescent green, blue and purple changes depending on the light. They made great ashtrays back in the day, but I've always wanted them to be more than that. So I've re-created my memories of the humble paua in this collection, using artistic license to give it completely new sizes, shapes and density.
